Bio

Jeffery G. Scism was born in Glendale, California in November 1956. He became an active genealogist in the early 1970s when assigned a high school project in family history. He served 16 years in the USAF, in the Aircrew Life Support career field. He holds degrees in Survival and Rescue Operations, as well as small business management. An avid photographer he has entered and won many photography contests. In 1997 he founded the International BlackSheep Society of Genealogists (IBSSG).The IBSSG is an internet based group of Genealogists who have found that they have "Blacksheep" ancestry, and are working around intentional "blackouts" of data by family members. The group has an active e-mail distribution list in Google groups. He is a past national board member of the USGenWeb Project. He has also acted as consultant to several newspapers on matters related to genealogy, including the Riverside California Press-Enterprise, and the San Jose Mercury News. He has also been on the board of his Homeowner's association, a non-profit corporation. Since leaving the USAF he has held several occupations, Mobile home Community manager, security services supervisor, Parts Receiver for NAPA auto Parts, store clerk at a 7-11, and (newspaper rack) distribution of the Los Angeles Times. He is currently a full-time "dad" and genealogist. The Find-A-Grave project allows him to combine photography and Genealogy while performing a public service. He is particularly interested in photographing grave sites of Military veterans. He is also active in the TEA Party movement. He tries to keep the politics and the genealogy separate.
