Adoption of a baby girl
Peter I have a friend that was adopted many years ago. Her name was Ruth Gaudette and she was taken into a family in Chicago. She is alive and her husband would never allow her to search her birth parents. If you are interested please get in touch with me and I will get more info. I am on face book and you can contact me there. My friend is in her 70's and wants to know more about her birth family. Her spouse passed away last year and she doe not how to start looking.

RE: Trayah Family
Was Joseph born in 1861 and did he die in 1937? If so his parents are Stephan Trayah (formerly Trayeau) and Josephine Mossey - sadly that is as far as the research has gone. We know that they had a ton of kids and we know they started the Trayah family line that exists in Vermont today (largely in the Milton area) but that is pretty much all we know. Stephen died before VT started keeping accurate records. There is a record of his death - it states that he died at 58 from Dropsy (edema due to congestive heart failure) and that he was born in St. Mary Quebec. Apparently his wife and his children didn't know anymore about their dad than we do today because the lines for the names of his parents are blank.

Josephine died in 1905 at age 65 and her parents are listed as Charles and Margaret Mossey both from Canada. I've not been able to substantiate that and since that information is often provided by next of kin it's not always the most reliable. I did find a Charles and Margaret Mossey from England born in 1814 (so definitely the right age) but they were still living there in 1851 and so that kind of rules them out because Josephine was born in Canada in 1840. In terms of Stephen, I am not aware of anyone that knows a darn thing about his past. There's a lady in Burlington who has more information on the Trayah side of the family than anyone and she doesn't even know. She sent me copies of everything she had and there's nothing about Stephen's parents or what he did for a living or if he served in the civil war - nothing.

If I have the right Joseph - I do have a picture of him if you want it - however, the email you used here doesn't appear to be a legit address so you'd have to provide me with an address that works. If you don't want to leave it here - you can email me at

Hello, do you have information about the Bessette's in Vermont around the time of the Civil War? I descend from Joseph and Miranda, but can't find previous generations. I also notice some inconsistencies and was wondering if you had better information! Thank you,
