Bio and Links
Bio Photo My name is Rita June Collvins Mayfield. I was born February 20, 1942 in Jackson County, Oklahoma. I married Vernon Roy Mayfield on April 16, 1971. My primary hobbies are gardening, oil painting, genealogy and of course cemeteries. There is something comforting about strolling through the cemetery and reading the stones. I have recently moved to Cordell, Oklahoma, but have lived in Oklahoma most of my life. Once an Okie, always an Okie. I am slowly trying to get all my family memorialized here. My virtual cemeteries represent my family, unless otherwise noted. I am going to make them public once again, and hope I can leave them without the misuse that occurred previously.

If I have a memorial that is anyone in your family, and is unrelated to me or my husband, I will be glad to hand it over to you as I don't adhere to the 4 generation only guideline, just contact me. I count it a joy and a job well done if I am able to pass on your loved one to you. It is my number two reason for doing this, second only to wishing to save all the old and battered stones from being lost forever. If you find errors on any of the information on my memorials, please get in touch with me with corrections. You are welcome to use my tombstone photos on your family files and family trees, just note where you got it.

Please don't post death certificates or census reports in the picture area on my memorials. They don't belong there and are detrimental to the looks of the memorial, plus it takes up room where photos could be placed.

Why did that post twice? A census transcription isn't THAT exciting.

Sorry.

1890 Cherokee census
Im at my local genealogy library today.

And I ran across a 2 volume set from Heritage Books Inc. of The 1890 Cherokee Nation Census Indian Territory (Oklahoma) It looks fascinating.

Do you have any interest in this and maybe not have easy access to a copy? It looks like it could be helpful in linking spouses and children. And some have occupations recorded.

I am being very much the general genealogy geek here.

RE: Infant Daughter Adler
Great!

I'll redo my search of "Infant" first name on your memorials in a day or two.

I could have entered memorial 2 from your info for 1 and sent a name correction (my usual practice) but that felt like cheating since we are having a nice messaging chat. There is no need whatever for me to "own" that memorial.

RE: Infant Blake
The site rules were recently amended to allow DC postings as photos, likely when the photo limit was quadrupled. Grrrr.

I'll take a very slow tour through your memorals for infant flowering. I have a VC with about 1,300 people under 21.

Oklahoma and Death Certificates
My only connection to Oklahoma is a great-grandfather buried in Oklahoma City. The tale is that he went out for the proverbial cigarettes and never came back to his wife and 4 children in Arkansas. My father was given his first name (tradition is strong I guess) and I gave my elder son the same first name after Dad.

Having just read your bio, I wanted to say I'm right with you about death certificate photos. I love reading the things, but their pictures should not be posted. A particular pet peeve is the folks posting those never seem to send edits based on them to the memorial manager. Mini-rant over.

Regards.

RE: Infant Blake
I'm not related either, but thank you for the offer!

I am kind of oriented toward infant memorials, having had several pregnancy losses. Just a personal quirk.

Regards.
