Bio

I began researching cemeteries in 2014. Cemetery research has also led to research on the families and their homes. I have done several updates on the Kentucky Kinfolk (formerly KyGenWeb) website. I am a member of the Louisville Historical League. As a (former) Board member of LHL, I researched and helped lead the LHL's annual cemetery tours.

I have written the cemetery descriptions on Find A Grave for the following cemeteries: Adath Jeshurun, Agudath Achim, Anshei Sfard, Berry Hill (partial), Brown Family, Burks, Calvary, Duncan, Floyd-Breckinridge (directions), Funk, Gardiner, German Reformed, Herr #1, Herr #2, Herr #3, Hikes, Hite Burial Ground, Hite Family, John A. Hodges, Keneseth Israel, Kennedy, Lawrence (partial), Ormsby, Orr, Parks, Rudy Burial Ground, Rudy Graveyard, Sale, Stock, The Temple, Whipps, White's Lonesome Dove, and Wilcox.

I have worked extensively at The Temple Cemetery in Louisville, researching the people buried there and taking photographs. The Temple has used my photographs on its own cemetery website. I have worked on "cleaning up" the Find A Grave pages for The Temple Cemetery, trying to make sure that Find A Grave accurately catalogs the people buried there. I worked directly with The Temple on this project and, after several months, as of July 12, 2019, Find A Grave's Temple Cemetery listing was as accurate as I could make it. Since then, however, people have added memorials which cannot be verified, as they are not in the cemetery records.

After "working" at The Temple Cemetery for several months, I also completed this project for all of the other Jewish cemeteries in Louisville: Adath Jeshurun, Agudath Achim, Keneseth Israel, Anshei Sfard, and Temple Shalom (since Temple Shalom is the only congregation in Louisville without its own cemetery, it has space at Cave Hill and at Keneseth Israel. I have created a virtual cemetery on Find A Grave for Temple Shalom burials). Just to verify accuracy, I take photographs of all of the monuments in the cemetery, compare them to the Herman Meyer funeral home website records and, if verified by my photographs, enter the section numbers of the graves (which, I hope, will make it easier on anyone who wants to visit a grave to have some idea of the location). For any discrepancies, I perform additional research. This entire project, for all of Louisville's Jewish cemeteries, took me over a year. As of September 28, 2019, my records are as comprehensive and as accurate as I can make them, and that is mostly reflected on the Find A Grave pages for these cemeteries. However, since that time, people have added memorials to those cemeteries which cannot be verified, as they are not in the records or are entered as a result of incorrect records.

I visit Louisville's Jewish cemeteries regularly, continuing to catalog and photograph the new burials. When I have posted a photo of the sign initially placed on the grave by the funeral home, I go back to check on those and, when the headstone has been engraved, I update the person's Find A Grave memorial by deleting the photo of the sign and replacing it with a picture of the actual headstone.

If I have added someone to Find A Grave, you can be assured that I have actually walked and verified that the person is buried in the cemetery. I never add anyone to Find A Grave unless I have been to the cemetery and seen their grave or otherwise verified through research (with multiple sources) that they are buried there. I will never add someone to a cemetery based solely on an internet source, such as an obituary, or genealogy website listing. There are just too many discrepancies out there.

I am happy to make edits to memorials but, again, I must have verification of an edit request. If I cannot verify the edit from online sources, I will ask for additional information from the requester before I can make the change.
