Born and raised in Marriottsville, MD to two wonderful parents and 5 siblings, our household was quite active to say the least. We all attended private school despite the financial hardship this imposed on my parents. We were taught good values and morals which I carry with me to this day. Raised in a very devout Irish Catholic household our family values were based on the teachings of the church. I am by no means an angel, God truly knows I have had my troubles. However, I do believe the career I chose was based on what I learned from my parents, Catholic school teachings and the church. I became a psychiatric social worker to help ease the pain of my fellow man and bring hope back into their lives. Life is hard enough and add in some mental illness that is sadly stigmatized by society, only leads to a disastrous end unless there are others to help that individual live their life to the fullest. That is my intention each time I meet with one of my patients.
I love being a graver! I have read about the lives of such wonderful and interesting people. I have also met very empathetic, kind, selfless and overall good individuals in the short amount of time I have been on this sight. This sight is very therapeutic for me. I lost my father 9 yrs ago and my Nana 27 yrs. ago. Two of the most wonderful and kind hearted individuals I have ever encountered until this day. I still cry for their loss.
One of the major reasons behind my participation in Find A Grave is to assist others in locating family members. On a personal note, I had extensive assistance with the research of my own family tree through Find A Grave. I hope to offer the same assistance to others or at the very least honor those that have passed.
Another reason I became involved with Find A Grave is because my home actually backs to a cemetery. I take my dog for walks through this beautiful memorial park and am fascinated at the long, and unfortunately, short lives of our fellow man. It breaks my heart to see old grave sites that are worn and damaged. It is obvious that family has not visited, live out of state or have passed on themselves resulting in no one to care for their loved one's buriel site. These souls seem to be forgotten. It is those sites that I pay particular attention to. They deserve the same respect and dignity in death as they did in life. My hope is that someone will be researching their family tree and locate that forgotten ancestor. We all deserve to be remembered, for life is such a precious gift from God not to be taken for granted or minimized.
