I started thinking about my roots after the death of my father in 1995. I had only met a few of his relatives as a child and not had any interaction since. I started my research in 2001 and quickly became addicted. You can learn so much about who you are by studying where you came from. The study of genealogy not only gives you a list of names and dates, it gives you an identity and a sense of pride (hopefully!). This hobby has also made the world a much smaller place. I now correspond with cousins I never knew all over the country who share the same passion.
