i was a small girl whose grandfather and other family were connected to these ships my grandpa was in bethlehem steel and so were other family members in the shipping industry one way or another, these were some of the better memories of my young life, grandpa taking me to see those massive ships ,i remember him pointing out the different ships as they came and went,he took me aboard a few of them,he had many friends and also stayed at times with my uncle tommy,he refered to me as his little detroit,oh how i wanted to stay with him but circumstances changed all of that,,i remember my grandpa coming over to the house one night,he had tears in his eyes,,apparently a ship had gone down and all but one person had survived, later to find that he was refering to the Morrell,i never saw him cry before,he died later that year, years later my uncle tommy called the house and i picked up the phone one night,he kept crying and said that they are all gone, all my friends are dead,..i couoldnt understand what had happened, aunt joy came onto the phone and told me that the Fitz was gone..all were assumed dead,,i just felt my heart sink as i sat down,i was numb all i could do was cry,,each and every year on the 10th of november i still think of all who perished on that night ,a mighty ship and crew slipped below the waters to be remembered in our hearts, our thoughts, our memories,,it is said that our loved ones live on if we dont forget them,,rest in peace and may god be with you always
