~โœพ~Proud to be a TEXAN~โœพ~

While living in San Antonio for 30+ years ... and even after moving to Austin in 1965, my paternal grandparents would travel to various places in the U.S. to attend Gospel meetings or to visit family. Some of these trips included stops at courthouses in Tennessee, Arkansas and Missouri ~ in addition to several counties through-out the Lone Star State ~ in search of family records. If she were alive today, my grandmother would be amazed that researchers can now retrieve available information via the internet. What took her ~ and others ~ hours, days, or even weeks to research, is at our fingertips in a matter of seconds.

From not only Grandmother's writings and knowledge, but those from many other descendants of long ago residents of Pettytown, Texas, there's a website dedicated to the history of this small community near Red Rock in Bastrop County.

Being quite young when Grandmother's memory began to fade, much of what I have learned about the Petty/Williams family history has been found in her writings, tidbits recalled from stories my dad related, or the Pettytown website. Census records have been a great source as well. I am glad that her enthusiasm of knowing our heritage passed to me.

To my dad's cousin, Glenda ~ who jotted down the stories her mama (my grand-aunt) told, plus the countless hours she spent in researching and writing ~ THANK YOU! What history is known about my Granddaddy's family, she has put in book form. Sadly, Glenda passed away the 13th of January, 2021. Her contribution to piecing together our family's history is invaluable. She is forever loved and will be missed. Until we meet again!

A special thanks to my cousin, Jo Ann. Thru her in-depth research, the treasure trove of information which has been discovered on both the maternal and paternal sides of my mother's family is so appreciated. Jo ~ you are absolutely amazing!

Research is still ongoing ... many "mysteries" have yet to be answered.

โœพPaternal family names: James, Williams, Simmons, Cheatham, Robnett, Baze, Petty, Dawson, Vann, Rogers
โœพMaternal family names: Gilbert, Sears, Underwood, Sparks, Hickman, Morris

Re: Find A Grave ~ I'd like to thank its creator ~ Jim Tipton, ancestry.com, and all the staff members. It's awesome to have a place where we can honor our loved ones ~ family and friends ~ who have gone on. To all contributors ~ your 'labor of love' is appreciated.

If you are a family member ~ close or distant ~ of a "non-family" memorial which I have created and/or maintain, I will gladly transfer the memorial to you ... requests for friends will be considered.

โœพPlease Note ~ Unless family of the decedent gives approval, names of living relatives will not be added to a memorial. Find A Grave rules request that we refrain from doing so.

Out of respect to the decedent and their family, please do not add photocopies of death certificates to any memorials I maintain ~ thank you.
God Bless
