Bio

I was born in south Georgia, and raised in the Air Force. My family settled in the Atlanta area after my father retired from the USAF. Except for a few years living in the North Georgia mountains near Helen, I lived in the Atlanta area for half a century before moving to Fort Worth, Texas.

I have always known I had deep southern roots, but did not realize how deep until my interest in genealogy was recently rekindled. Going back six generations 27% of my known ancesters were from South Carolina or immigrated there from Scotland and Ireland, 25% were from North Carolina, 25% were from Georgia, 5% were from Virginia, and 6% were from New York and Connecticut (12% of unknown origin). My European ancestry appears to be about evenly split between Celtic (Scottish and Irish) and English, with a smattering of Dutch and German.

As an "Old Scroll" 1st Battalion Ranger, I'm quite interested in the military experiences of ancestors and other relatives. Here are a few examples of my family who had military experience:
Capt Robert Walter Hill 1930-2004 (father) Memorial# 14611936
Joseph Bingham Mack, Jr 1932-1966 (uncle) Memorial# 38580969
Maj Joseph Bingham Mack, Jr 1935-1966 (cousin) Memorial# 68807118
Hewell Britt Blake 1919-1986 (granduncle) Memorial# 31885095
Rev Joseph Bingham Mack 1896-1969 (grandfather) Memorial# 103480757
George Lafayette Hill 1843-1922 (great-grandfather) Memorial# 30146074
Rev Joseph Bingham Mack 1838-1912 (2nd great-grandfather) Memorial# 30168521
David Peden 1760-1823 (5th great-grandfather) Memorial# 8025522
Benjamin Church 1639-1717 (9th great-granduncle) Memorial# 24720663

I first came to findagrave.com looking for information on ancestors. A few were already here. I plan to add the rest.
