Bio

I have served on the Board of Trustees at Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands, NY, since 2018 and am the current President of the Board (2022-present). I have also served on the Board of the Historical Society of the Town of Colonie (2009-2017), serving as President (2012-2016).

I enjoy Civil War history, particularly history local to the City of Albany and outlying areas, with an emphasis on what local citizens did during the Civil War. I've compiled a list of over 1,100 Civil War soldiers & sailors interred in Albany Rural Cemetery, which includes 27 generals, 6 Medal of Honor recipients from the Civil War, and 3 Confederate soldiers. My special interest in finding and documenting Civil War soldiers and sailors buried in Albany Rural Cemetery has led to writing biographical articles for publication in the quarterly newsletters, Elegy. My work has also been used in several publications, including "People of Albany: The Civil War" (Peter Hess, 2008), "These Exalted Acres" (Paul Grondahl, 2013) and "Cease Firing! Life and Death at the Swope Manor" (Kellie Gormly, 2023). All three of the books can be purchased at the ARC Office.

I also conduct Civil War walking tours and PowerPoint presentations at Albany Rural Cemetery for various size groups, such as: historical societies; Civil War Round Tables; genealogical societies; Boy Scout troops; Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs; and various other civic organizations. Great history lessons! Email me if you are interested.
