In the mid-1970s, when I was just a kid, my Nana was researching her Irish heritage. Since the 1900 census had recently become available & my family lived in the Washington, DC suburbs, I would go with her to the National Archives & review rolls & rolls of microfilm. I thought it fascinating.

A few decades go by, my Nana passes & then my brother starts the hunt.

In 2012, with nothing better to do, I start indexing the 1940 census when it is released, typing more than 10,000 records. And I fall in love with genealogy all over again.

So at the start of 2013, while exploring both my & my husband's ancestry, I come across Find-A-Grave. Woo hoo! When our daughter was a teen, she & I LOVED to check out cemeteries, wandering thru the beautiful, peaceful grounds. Maybe try to figure out family relationships based on the marker inscriptions. She's an adult now, but I still love cemeteries. And the husband is a fabulous photographer. So taking pictures of headstones is an activity we can enjoy together.
