My name is George Wilkinson and I am an avid researcher and historian for the Fourth Michigan Infantry. This was a regiment serving the Union forces in the American Civil War. I have created and currently maintain a website (4thmichigan.wordpress.com) which is dedicated to those heroic men, in an effort to provide a much deeper look into the regiment and the men memorialized here on Find-A-Grave. I am also very interested in collecting actual wartime relics, as well as any reliable information, that relates to the soldiers of the Fourth Michigan Infantry. I may also be of assistance in obtaining military files from the National Archives (for a fee) should you need them for any soldier in this unit.


I would like to thank each and every Find-A-Grave member that have assisted me in re-uniting the men of the Fourth Michigan Infantry together through memorial transfers. My appreciation is also extended to those who have contributed additional information for these memorials resulting in a more accurate tribute to a soldier's life.

Some members have asked why I request the transfer of a memorial rather than suggesting a correction...and that's a very valid question.

If, while managing a soldier's memorial, I am contacted by one of his descendants, not only can I then transfer that memorial to them if they ask, but I can also provide them additional information and resources in order to help them learn more about their ancestor's service in the Civil War. That is one of my primary goals as a Find-A-Grave member...to help other members, historians, genealogists, and most importantly, the descendents of these men, take an interest in the Fourth Michigan Infantry during the Civil War.

Direct descendants and "sincerely interested" members are more than welcome to ask for the transfer of a memorial. I personally believe that "sharing" is the ultimate Find-A-Grave policy, and will always work with those who feel the same.

Please remember, that in reality, we are all "temporary custodians" of these memorials, and "hoarding" them does absolutely nothing to benefit them. Find-A-Graves transfer request policy is a "guideline" not a crutch, so show some compassion to those that ask, while you're still here to answer.
