09/23/2019 Update: I will continue to be active as long as possible. I've been battling cancer more than eight years. Very recently I finally learned that I inherited a pathogenic BRCA2 gene mutation. It is NOT one of the three BRCA variants commonly found in the Ashkenazi Jewish community. There are many pathogenic and likely pathogenic BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations. Women need to keep this in mind before getting tested through 23andMe. Their test does not even detect almost 90% of the harmful BRCA mutations.
