Bio Photo Hi and stuff.

I'm a fellow that does cemetery transcribing and photography on the island of Maui. Props to fellow Maui gravers at the Hawaii Headstone Gallery, and anyone else out there that is transcribing or picture-taking. This island is loaded with neglected and unattended graveyards. I find this to be a shame, and although I do not have as much time as I wish I did, I hope to do what I can to spruce up some of the island's old burial grounds.

Oh, you wanna know about me? Well, there's not much interesting about me. I'm a cookie-cutter loafer that likes video games, rap artists that don't suck and history.

You need a photo of a certain person's grave from Maui? Feel free to email me requesting a photo. There are more cemeteries than you'd think for this island's size, so if you have a location, please provide it. I promise to get it to you ASAP, which should be in a day or two (Unless said cemetery is on the extreme sides of the islands, in which case it may take me a bit).

Corrections or contributions are extremely welcome, especially if you know info about the person that I don't.

That's about all for the time being. Peace.

Seamsn's Cemetery, Maui
Hi Mongoose - I have located a partial burial list from the Lehaina Restoration Foundation for the years 1844-1847. The list contains 25 individuals - names, ages, ship name, American location, date of death and many times the illness.

Would you be interested in this list. Just send me an e-mail and I can forward it to you. It is a PDF file.

Hope this helps, Hank Klein

Seaman's Cemetery -Lahiana
Hi Mongoose- I visited the church's cemetery on June 19, 2017. I was actually looking for the Seaman's Cemetery and I found it way in the back left. I am interested in Whalers, particularly those from New London or Mystic, Connecticut who died in the 1800s.

I only found one headstone. That of Charles S. Adams who died on June 21, 1861, and was from New York. On Find-A-Grave Mongoose said there is a list of those interned in the Seaman's Cemetery, but I did not see one. Only one marker and two rocks marking graves.

Mongoose, do you have a list of those interned in the section of your cemetery reserved for American seaman who died in Lahaina, HI?

Thanks, Hank - klein@aristotle.net

Rain in the Face
I know that Find A Grave is managing Rain in the Face's memorial, but I don't know how to get a message through to them.

The problem is that he is NOT buried at Aberdeen. That was someone's shenanigans, who claimed he was buried there, probably to attract tourists. I was born on Standing Rock, as was my father, and his father and grandfather settled there in 1917, so I know a quite a bit of the history.

I also know the Standing Rock historian, who told me that Rain in the Face is buried on Standing Rock. A similar attempt to move the remains of Sitting Bull to a grave across the river from Mobridge, was also found out by Standing Rock officials before the prank could be pulled. Long story short, they moved someone's remains, but not Sitting Bull's to that so-called burial spot.

At best, both so-called burial spots can be called memorial sites, but NOT their actual burial sites. Standing Rock has kept the actual burial sites a secret for this very reason. All Native American burials are considered sacred, and those of the more famous American Indians are kept especially safeguarded.

The burial place of Rain in the Face should be corrected, and Aberdeen should be given as a memorial site.

Sincerely,
Sylvia M. Hertel

Few Requests
I have left messages quite some time ago (2-3months) and have not gotten a response. I know we are all busy and this is not the only thing we have to do... but we take genealogy seriously and would like things to move along without worrying about checking back.

Aloha!!
George Cabral de Mello, Kahului Catholic Cem. #8586923 is the son of Magdalena Maggie Santos Danley not the husband. Maybe I made the mistake when I put the request in before and only noticed it now. So sorry about that!
