Katherine Wood - Find A Grave Memorial # 25470168
Please excuse - had to update it a little myself - therefore a second version of it here...
Thank you so much for your work!

Maiden name: Katherine Marie Wood
Date of birth: Jun. 7, 1900
Birthplace: Chicago, Illinois
Date of death: Oct. 13, 1977
Last residence: 92660 Newport Beach, Orange County, California
Place of death: Orange County, California

Name of father: James Wood (1865 – 1944), Find A Grave Memorial # 7651914
Name of mother: Mary Ellen Enright Wood (0ct. 23, 1864 – Aug. 4, 1938), Find A Grave Memorial# 25470171

James Wood was born in England of English parents and Mary Ellen Enright was born in Illinois, the daughter of Irish immigrants.
Their marriage took place on Dec. 2, 1891 in Cook County, Illinois.

Katherine probably had these siblings:

Charles E (6 in 1900): born 1893 or 1894*
Timothy J (6 in 1900): born 1893 or 1894
John H (2 in 1900; 22 in 1920): born 1897 or 1898
Katherine Marie: (Jun. 7, 1900 – Oct. 13, 1977) Find A Grave Memorial# 25470168
David (18 in 1920): born 1901 or 1902

* There is a Find a Grave memorial (# 25470165) for a Charles E. Wood (born May 19, 1894, died Feb. 21, 1959 – buried in Northbrook, Cook County, IL)

Her first marriage was to Roy Harold Scherer, born Jun. 3, 1899 in Richland County, Illinois – he died on Nov. 22, 1982 at Grants Pass, Josephine County, Oregon (Find a Grave memorial # 84435269).
The marriage took place either in 1923 or in 1924.
On Nov. 17, 1925 Katherine gave birth to her/his only child: Roy Harold Scherer – who later adopted the stage name Rock Hudson (Find A Grave memorial# 519).

Roy Harold Scherer Sr. left his family and moved to California in 1932 – according to Sara Davidson (Rock Hudson. His Story, 1986). In 1932 he is registered as a resident of Los Angeles City. When her son was seven Katherine travelled with him to California in a futile attempt to save the marriage.

According to the information on his “Find a Grave” memorial, Roy Harold Scherer Sr. got married to Florence Alice Palmer on Aug. 28, 1933 in Los Angeles, California. Thus the divorce must have taken place either in 1932 or in 1933.

Her second (and third) husband was Wallace E. Fitzgerald, born Nov. 9, 1909 in Greenland, Rockingham County, New Hampshire – he died on Jul. 23, 1969 in Los Angeles County, California (Find a Grave memorial # 3707839). They were married in February of 1934 (Phyllis Gates and Bob Thomas: My Husband, Rock Hudson, 1987).
Wallace E. Fitzgerald then adopted Katherine’s son – he became Roy Harold Fitzgerald.

Katherine divorced Fitzgerald and remarried him – probably in 1936 (Jerry Oppenheimer and Jack Vitek: Idol. Rock Hudson. The True Story of an American Film Hero, 1986) write that she remarried two years before her mother’s death). According to the authors the marriage lasted eight years. However according to the “New York Times” obituary for Rock Hudson (Oct. 3, 1985) it lasted nine years.

When Roy Harold Fitzgerald was fifteen she got her third divorce – in 1941 (according to Gates/Thomas the couple separated in July of 1941).

Her fourth marriage took place - according to Oppenheimer/Vitek - “years later” in Los Angeles to Joe Olsen, “a retired Winnetka civil servant”.

She remarried before/in 1952 – since in 1952 Rock Hudson was the star of an episode of “This is Your Life” (Dec. 17, 1952) where she got introduced as “Mrs. Joe Olsen”.
Joe or Joseph Olsen, as her son called his stepfather (“Rock Hudson Answers his Critics” by Ainslie Baker, in: The Australian Women’s Weekly, July 16, 1958), predeceased his wife.

Regarding Katherine Wood –
It would be great if you could add the following information…
(A detailed account of the sources goes to your Email-address.)

The marriage took place either in 1923 or in 1924.
On Nov. 17, 1925 Katherine gave birth to her only child: Roy Harold Scherer – who later became famous to the world as Rock Hudson.

The marriage took place according to one account in 1932 (Brenda Scott Royce: Rock Hudson: a bio-bibliography, 1995), to others (Oppenheimer, Jerry/Vitek, Jack: Idol. Rock Hudson. The True Story of an American Film Hero, 1986 and the Oct. 3, 1985 “New York Times” obituary for Rock Hudson) when her son was eight – thus it must have been either in 1933 or in 1934.
In an interview (“Rock Hudson Answers his Critics” by Ainslie Baker, in: The Australian Women’s Weekly, July 16, 1958) her son remembered as being “about nine” when his mother married Fitzgerald.

Katherine divorced Fitzgerald and remarried him – probably in 1936 (Oppenheimer/Vitek write that she remarried two years before her mother’s death). According to the authors the marriage lasted eight years – according to the New York Times obituary it lasted nine years.

Adrienne Ames
Adrienne Ames was never married to William Scott "Jack" Elam. She had 3 husbands;
Bruce Cabot (31 October 1933 - 6 April 1937) (divorced)
Stephen Ames (21 August 1929 - 30 October 1933) (divorced)
Derward Dumont Truax (1925 - 1928) (divorced) (1 child).
Her Hollywood career lasted about 10 years. From 1929 to 1940. Jack Elam was just 20 years old in 1940.
In 1931 she married actor Bruce Cabot after leaving her second husband, a rich New York City stockbroker, but that marriage only lasted six years. In her divorce she told the court that the main reason she left him was that he was a violent, uncontrollable drunk. In 1938 the pair appeared before a US Tax Appeals Board to explain why she wrote off more than $9000 in wardrobe and jewelry on her 1934 tax form, which she claimed was necessary for "professional reasons" (as was her maid). She claimed that her "daily expenses" included flowers, massages, taxis and beauty work.
There is no documentation of her being married to Jack and he had 2 wives that are documented in California during the time she is documented in New York City.
Please remove her as Jack Elam's Spouse.
Thank You,

Betty Ross Clarke Memorial
I wanted to point out that the memorial you created for Betty Ross Clarke (#8757526) is not actually the gravesite for Betty Ross Clarke, actress. The correct memorial for Betty Ross Clarke, actress, is #85366875. She was interred in Forest Lawn in 1970. I recommend that the bio and photo on your memorial for Betty Ross Clarke be removed in order to prevent future confusion on this point. Thanks.
