Bio

My dad was a Hazel and my mom was a Bolt... hence, Hazelnuts & Bolts. :)

Our Hazel name down through time has had many spellings (Hazle, Hasel, Hasell, Hassel, etc.). My other lines include Bolt, Owens, Garner, Coleman, Nelson, Brownlee, Stone, Garrett, Owsley, Hughes, Riddle, Franks, Lanford, and more (most from the old Ninety-Six District which became Laurens, Newberry, and others). I've been researching family history for 30+ years.

Feel free to copy any photos I've provided... I don't need credit for your using them. Just be sure to assign them to the correct person.

This Hand-Me-Down Life
~ by Hazelnuts & Bolts

Inside that old cupboard there is a collection of useless things -
An old metal cigarette case, flour sacks tattered into strings,
Old glass bowls where granny's biscuits were formed from softest dough,
Ancient, nicked up candlesticks sitting side by each in a row -
Those things that were handed down from relatives long gone
Whose lives are summed up there in things that linger on.
Those things they handed down I keep for all to see...
But what about those other things they handed down to me?
Is there something in my careworn face that brings old John to mind?
Or something in the way I speak... is Amanda there to find?
Is Janie coursing through my veins or Louise inside my soul?
Did Earl or Hunter leave their mark for the heart I know they stole?
And did Duff, whose character I never really knew,
Leave a little part of himself as from a child I grew?
Some are never satisfied with old hand-me-downs, you see,
But I hope I'm always grateful for the life you handed down to me.
