I have always found graveyards interesting. Both sets of my grandparents lived on farms across the road from the little country cemetery of Star Valley, southwest of Chandler in Lincoln County, Oklahoma. As a child, when we would visit my grandparents, we would walk down the dusty dirt road to visit the graveyard. As we walked from grave to grave, Mama and Grandma Vorhis would reminisce about the people buried there.

Many entries are from newspaper clippings and funeral programs my 87-year-old mother kept over the years. Mom was great about clipping obituaries from the papers. Unfortunately, she didn't write the dates on most of her clippings, and many of the obituaries do not include dates.

Each time I visit a cemetery, I record a few of the graves, hoping the information will be helpful to someone. The emails I have received let me know that my efforts are not in vain.

Note: My maternal grandparents are Will and Dortha Vorhis, who lived across from Star Valley Cemetery, and my paternal grandparents are Fred and Mary Hopkins (Hoepken) whose farm adjoined the Vorhis' farm on the west. Grandma Hopkins died when I was two, so I didn't know her. Most of my aunts, uncles and cousins are buried in Star Valley, along with distant relatives on my daddy's side. Besides Hopkins (Hoepken) and Vorhis, other relatives include Maness, Evans, Stidham, Ramsey, Dillon. Other relatives on my Daddy's side include Brown, Inskeep and Yancey.
