Bio

I focus most of my Find a Grave energy on Quantico National Cemetery (QNC). My goal is to ensure every existing grave marker in QNC is photographed and included here. If you manage a memorial for someone interred at QNC, any changes I make are because I have researched information I feel important enough to suggest adding.

Currently, I am trying to add/correct plot information for QNC. I am using the National Cemetery Administration standard of "Section XX Site XX" or ""Section A-WX Row X Site A-XX." Most memorials in QNC use this format or the long defunct "X, 0, XXX" format. I do this because this is Find a Grave. If you've been in a cemetery trying to help someone find a grave, or checking if someone is still interred there, you understand the importance of plot information. Also, Find a Grave can now sort on plots. If there are too many different formats, sorting isn't as useful. Eventually, I hope to check for plot number gaps and see if someone is missing from the database (I have found and reported a few to QNC staff). It seems punctuation and case no longer sort differently, so I won't change those just for the sake of change. Likewise, I only submit changes to older formats when suggesting other changes.

Historical research is a hobby of mine. On occasion, I discover biographical information about people and exercise my research skills by tracking them down here and updating their information. There is a wealth of information on the internet, and my goal is to improve the information in Find a Grave for future researchers.

I believe information is more important than numbers. Empty memorials do not impress anyone. They more often serve to rob others of the opportunity to provide information and links that could prove important to families tracing their ancestry.

Like many volunteers here on Find A Grave, I am seldom related to the people whose information I've researched and updated. I take my research seriously and do not make changes unless I am reasonably sure of the information. If you are uncomfortable with any change and would like further clarification, please feel free to ask below.

If I have created a memorial for a family member of yours, I am happy to transfer management to you. I don't mind unless it's a relative of mine. If it is, let's discuss!

Please do not transfer memorials to me without asking. Corrections I request to a memorial do not mean I desire, or deserve, to manage it. I reserve the right to return it to you. If you no longer wish to manage memorials in your care, please transfer them to Find a Grave, contributor #8.
