I am the Fifth Great Granddaughter of Christian Otto Schultz, of Rhinebeck, NY, through his son LT Peter Schultz. Peter was one of eight brothers who were revolutionary war patriots. I'm working on the burial sites and vital statistics of all of Christian Otto and Christiana's descendents.

My paternal Grandmother was a King, and what a lot of Kings there were and are! They were boilermakers and laborers and other hard-working folks from Bath, Maine. The families were large, most had little money, and the stories are sometimes hard to take. Infants died more often than in the wealthier side of the family, women married and died young, children like little Hattie King and her two sisters didn't always get to stay with their Mom and Dad. The Kings who survived were sometimes badly damaged by their experiences. The Kings were among the original settlers of Quebec, Canada, although the name was Royale before being Americanized. Theirs is a story of many generations who overcome hardship and tragedy. It's not a pretty story, not always an honorable one, but it's honest and has plenty of moments of triumph, joy and even hope.

On my Mother's side, we have Burns and Gerfin, two names that lead back to Canada, PA, Maine and MA. Behind the Burns, we find the early settlers of Union, Maine, including Phillip Robbins who's home now houses the Union Historical Society, the Cummings, with a few courageous fellows who headed off to Lexington, and before them, William and Johanna Towne, my 9G Grandparents, who's three daughters were accused during the hysteria of the Salem witch trials. Rebecca Towne Nurse and Mary Towne Esty, were hung. Sarah was accused after she protested her sister's innocence and spent nearly a year in jail. Her case was finally dismissed by Grand Jury.
