I have given presentations at the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies (IAJGS) conferences on how to read the Hebrew on tombstones and various interesting inscriptions. This is the result of having read thousands of tombstones during the course of my research since 2004. I'm always surprised at how it's possible to still discover new and different things inscribed on markers.

On findagrave, if I happen to come across random stones with Hebrew on them, I add my "two cents worth" and provide the transcriptions of those names, and sometimes other bits of information not found in the secular languages.

I feel this is often a great way to indicate parentage for those doing genealogy research, if the information happens to be there and cannot be understood.
