My name is John Louis Akard III. I live in Paoli, PA but I was raised in Brooklyn, IN. Between my own time in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and my time as an adult leader of Troop 181 in Paoli, as my son went through the ranks, I claim 22 years in Scouting. I currently work for Jade Yoga. We make Yoga Mats that we ship to 35 different countries.

I got my start in Genealogy back in 1977, about 6 weeks before the TV show "Roots" hit the air. In the years before the Internet, we made our family trees on paper Family Sheets and Pedigrees. There's nothing like the thrill,today, of going to a court house and looking up the the wills, deeds, marriage and death records. Most don't hold their ancestors pension records in their hands. Going through an inch thick folder that shows every detail of what your great, great grand father went through to obtain a pension of $12.00 a month for his service in the War of the Rebellion (Civil War). Now, that's something else.

I want to help anyone with an interest in this information. I welcome any additions or corrections you have. I don't plan to change these memorials unless I can research the changes. Citations are most welcome.
