I became interested in celebrity graves in 1984,
when my (then) girlfriend was fascinated with
Marilyn Monroe. I took her to Marilyn's crypt at
Westwood Memorial Cemetary, and I was fascinated
to find so many other celebrities buried there.
This started in me a hobby of "collecting"
celebrity graves, way before it was an "in" or
trendy thing to do. I had "collected" about 255
of them before I retired from this hobby, after
it became mainstream and "crowded". I actually
decided to stop after I was taking my parents
out with me to Hollywood Forever (then Hollywood Memorial Cemetary) -they wanted to try to understand the attraction), and while we were at Virginia Rappe's grave, a tour group came through. That did it for me. Before I gave it up, I did attend Ricky Nelson's funeral, and I also once run into the "Lady in Black" at Valentino's grave, and I had a chance to date a security guard at Westwood Memorial (though I never did). I never got into the Great Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Glendale, to get to W.C. Fields or any of the other several legends that are buried therein. I'd love to get in there to see them, and also to help Sydney Greenstreet and other celeb's get out of their "utility columbarium" and into a fitting niche.
