Hello, I have always been interested in cemeteries. When I was a child our family reunion was always planned for Memorial Day and all the family from all over the state would meet at Woodland cemetery, Cleveland, OK to decorate the graves. Then we would have a huge picnic at the local park. So I guess the early exposure to the cemetery and the loss of my baby brother Johnny left an everlasting impact with me.

When my youngest son Jeff died, I truly learned the importance of the earth where he would be laid to rest. When I was eight years old, my cousin drowned while serving in the US Army, I remember to this day attending his funeral (another everlasting impact) He is buried at the crest of the cemetery with the US Flag close by. So when we were decorating graves, he was not buried in the same area as the rest of the family, we would go to the Flag pole and search for his grave from there. When Jeff died I requested he be buried by the flag pole, but since this was the oldest part of the cemetery it was not easy to find a plot, but I would not give up. He is buried with the flag pole approximately 3 feet from the end of his grave. Perfect!! I have walked over that section of earth since I was a small child, not knowing why this area of the cemetery was so important to me...now I know, it was there especially for Jeff.

I recently lost my husband Larry K Gist on September 05, 2014, another devastating heartache. He lost his life due to complications of the dreadful disease Alzheimer's. I miss him so much that I could lay down and die but I can't... I have to wait my turn and I too will survive this.

I have found peace browsing through this website and I highly recommend it to my friends. I have recently moved back to Tulsa so I am close again to the cemetery and Jeff and my deceased loved ones.
