Bio and Links
Bio Photo I've been interested in genealogy for quite some time now. Thanks to the bountiful records my grandfather kept, hand written notes and stories from family as well as technology I've been able to put together a few pieces of the puzzle. Some of the pieces are listed on this site. It's a continuous cycle which will always be of interest to me.

I have a complete DNA profile on FTDNA.com.
I've tested both Paternal and Maternal sides and have taken the test which breaks down my ethnic background. I was not surprised to find I still have relatives in Europe and throughout the U.S.A. I advise those who are interested in genealogy to take at least the family finder test. You don't have to take the complete test as I did, the family finder test is just as good for the beginner.

The known names I descend from on my Paternal Side are: Chojnacki, Krajenke, Slobodnik, and Sikora. I am still filling in the gaps.

One final note, do not suggest any changes or try to alter any of the bio's I have written. I will change them back. I cite my sources and give credit to those I get my sources from. Try reading a book before going on the web for information when it comes to the spelling of someones name. My effort is worth more than a one time Google search.

Sonny Eliot
Hey Michael, don't know if your 'family' or not but would you add Mrs. Eliot, Annette Eliot, to 'Find-A-Grave' as you already have the headstone and Sonny's listed? My brothers took classes from her at Pleasantview Elementary in East Detroit. Her info-
January 29, 1916 - August 4, 2014
Eliot, Annette “nee Gaertner” age 98 passed away August 4, 2014. Loving wife of the late Sonny Eliot for 50 years. Cherished aunt of Diana (the late Richard) Weber, the late Charlie (Mary) Chapman, Suzanne (Jesse) Pitt, Janet (Dave) Shaw, Al (Cathy) Gaertner, Joan (Paul) Boettner, Carl Gaertner, Barbara (Rick) Ivone, and the late Mary Ann Waggoner. Caring great aunt of 18 and great great aunt of 17.

Annette was a teacher of East Detroit Public Schools for over 40 years retiring at the age of 72. She loved to travel, shop, and spend time with her family and friends. Annette had a special place in her heart for Paris. She paid her own way through college during the Great Depression and worked at the Pentagon during the war. She was an independent, hard working, and an inspirational woman who broke barriers and pushed the boundaries of the times. Annette experienced life to the fullest and made a difference in people’s lives. She is loved and missed by all.

Chojnacki Family
Good Morning,

Took the DNA test through ancestry.com. Have a C.L. coming up as a match. Figured it out to be unk. Lepo.

Tracing it back, goes to Piotr Chojnacki & Walenthia Krajenke.

Their son, Frank, married Johanna Poliwodzinski.
Daughter, Mary Rose, married Douglas Groenert.

Daughter (Private) Groenert married son of Daniel Joseph Lepo.

End result, C.Lepo. is my 3rd. or 4th. cousin. Rest of the information is Private to me.

Trying to figure out how of this ties in with my family. Guess is what I'm asking, have you gone back further than Piotr Chojnacki? Father listed as John Chojnacki.

My 2nd. Great Grandfather, John Thomas Chojnacki 1844 - 1926, his father is listed as Thomas Chojnacki. That doesn't tell me anything.

Most of my relatives are buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Detroit

Don't want to be guessing at relatives. For all I know John Thomas & John could be brothers. Please let me know if you have any other info.

Appreciate your time,
Thnaks so much,
Monica

Michael,
Thank you so much for that picture. I thought they would have to mark the site with something, but I never imagined a stone with the number. I was told by another volunteer that the site was not marked. I have a gravesite on order that should be delivered in the next month.
Happy New Year to you. Kay Humes

Sweetest Heart cemetery help
Hello,
I am not related by any means, but see that you are having difficulty finding some relatives at Sweetest Heart of Mary Cemetery. Specifically your great grandma, Walentina, as you do not have a date of death.

You can contact the Archvices at the archdiocese of Detroit;I would assume the archives at the Archdiocese of Detroit would be able to help you with a death date for Walentina.

you can contact their archives office via email:
Archives
12 State Street
Detroit, MI 48226-1823

They have helped me before that's why i suggest it.

Michael, thanks for the credit, I appreciate it! Back in 2004 when I took this and other photos up in the Arctic, I shared them widely online, not realizing (as I would now) how they'd get used and re-used. I really appreciate your getting back to me and changing this!
