I was born in Newark, Essex, NJ in 1950. I lived in Stirling, Morris, NJ and attended public school there. I graduated from Newark State College in 1968 (now Kean University) with a degree in Health and Physical Education. I taught school in NJ for seven years and then relocated to Florida. I was employed with the State of Florida in the Division of Disability Determinations and retired in 2016. I have been researching my genealogy for well over 30 years. I am also a Co-Director with the University of South Florida Africana Heritage and Low Country Africana projects. Our mission is to rediscover records related to enslaved African Americans and to post those documents on our websites. We were asked by the Obama campaign to research Michelle Obama's genealogy and our team spent two weeks in South Carolina uncovering documents related to her family. Research is my passion and the hours I spend at it are fulfilling and rewarding.
