I love genealogy my only wish is that my husband of 40+ years had the same interest so that we could do this together. Second to that my daughter, Jana has picked up the interest and whenever possible she and I both work together, which is very rewarding. The old saying "two heads are better than one" is definately true. In Feb.2012 my husband had a stroke and with the care for him my time is limited for genealogy and entering memorials on findagrave. I still love finding time here and there to play around on the site. It is so rewarding to find a memorial of an ancestor, still finding new ones often, last one was as recent as 10/15/2013. As more members join and more memorials are entered I'm sure the rewards will continue...thanks to those who submit and manage memorials w/o you this site wouldn't grow. |
This is a wonderful site for honoring passed loved ones. Hats off to the one who thought of this idea. Thank you for your hard work as well.
ANY MEMORIALS I HAVE CONTRIBUTED MAY BE COPIED AND USED FOR GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH OR PERSONAL USE ON FAMILY TREES, ANCESTRY.COM ACCOUNTS AND OR FAMILY NEWSLETTERS, ETC. WITHOUT SHARING WHERE WOULD GENEALOGY RESEARCH BE? IF THERE IS A MEMORIAL THAT I HAVE SUBMITTED THAT IS A LOVED ONE OF YOURS, ASK AND IF THEY ARE NOT CLOSELY RELATED TO ME I WILL BE GLAD TO TRANSFER. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT IT MAY BE WRITTEN IN STONE BUT STILL BE WRONG AND SHOULD BE USED ONLY AS A GUIDE FOR YOUR RESEARCH. IF YOU USE MY NOTES, PLEASE GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE, I DO.

Thank you so much- and I am learning slowly but more assuredly with help from patient people like you. The fluctuations in name spellings and illegible handwriting add to the confusion. Also, the fact that sometimes it seems families used the same names REPEATEDLY for cousins etc. It is truly a journey with many twists and turns- mine just happen to have MANY U turns at this point.
MUCH appreciation- Terri

|Terri ||Re: Virginia McDonald Beauchamp|
Her Memorial number is 32309538
I'm sorry if I sounded short before- I am very new to this and have found many spelling changes for many family names-
My mother was an Evans, and father Birchfield ... which has been spelled Evens and Burchfield, with siblings spelling the same name differently- then top with handwritten census misspellings and it just makes things that much harder to track with any confidence. I guess my point was that she (Virginia "Jennie" McDonald Beauchamp Evans) used the spelling Beauchamp on Civil War pension papers she filled out and signed. Also, the way it was spelled in the 1892 family bible my mother has in her possession. My mother did say, however, that she heard several relatives pronounce it as Beacham... or Beecham and I think with older handwriting techniques could very well be interpreted from Beauchamp.
I hope that the tonal loss in type did NOT come across as being a smart alec. I certainly do not see myself as ANY authority on ancestry research, as I am a beginner, and look to others for guidance and help along the way-
Again- thank you for your time, Terri

|Terri ||Re: Virginia McDonald 'Beecham'|
Hello- I just wanted to give you a correction on my 2X great grandmother's name- Her maiden name was Beauchamp not Beecham. We have several points to support this- Virginia M Beauchamp married Thomas Jefferson Evans on 8 Nov 1871 in Limestone County- Alabama Select Marriages 1816-1942 she filed for Civil War Veteran Pension signed as "Jennie Beauchamp Evans" and was living with her daughter listed Mary Lee Evans on application ---Jennie is also the name on their joint headstone here in Limestone County (near my grandfather's farm) Also, she named one of her sons with Beauchamp as middle name- Besides the fact my VERY clear minded 82 yr old mother remembers her name and it is in the family bible, I have nothing more. Just hope this will clear up a muddy trail tracking family ancestry for others-
Thank you for all your time- Terri

|Roudy Smith||Unreadable grave markers|
Find A Grave rules state that unreadable names are to be entered as first name Unknown, last name Unknown. Edits to follow.
|Clinton Slayton||RE: Mattie Slayton|
Thanks very much!
I contacted Susan Bennett, and asked her to put the image out there, but it looks like she was beaten to the punch by Tim Slaton, who may not realize that he is not allowed to move other people's images.
He is the grandson of Elmer and Mattie, and will probably be asking for a transfer of them, he had contacted a cousin Elmer about finishing Mattie's gravestone, and then the cousin died. Tim presumably knows her death date.
The corrections I am sending re: SLEDGE is correct, I am in contact with a direct descendant, their grandson. I am also suggesting a link in another EDIT.
