Our Tinsleys came to America from Yorkshire, England in the early sixteen hundreds and my ancestor, Lt. Isaac Tinsley, son of Edward Tinsley and Margaret Taylor of Amherst County, VA.,Tinsley Military History furnished supplies for the Virginia Militia, as well as leading his company in battle during the Revolutionary War. Another of my ancestors, Col. Jon Lattimore, was an aide to George Washington at Valley Forge.
My seventh great grandmother, Margaret Taylor Tinsley, was a sister to President James Madison's grandmother and through this connection, I am a cousin to five presidents – James Madison, John Tyler, Benjamin Harrison, William Henry Harrison and Zachary Taylor.
( Margaret Taylor's sister Frances married Ambrose Madison and they were the grandparents of President James Madison. Margaret Taylor's mother was a Thompson and the Thompson's have the distinction of being the only family with five US presidents as direct descendants ).
I am a direct descendant of William Brewster, the leader of the Pilgrims and I am a member of the Mayflower Society through my Tinsley-Murry Line.
I am also a Kentucky Colonel.
