Currently working on documenting the old City Cemetery in Hot Springs, Arkansas. It is still not on any map, but it is right in the middle of Hot Springs, on the creek and near the Race Track. I have entered in the last week over 500 known burials, some of whom never lived in Arkansas, but were documented as "visitors" aka tourist; people who came for the baths, railroad men, soldiers, travelers etc. I've discovered recently, through War Department records, prior to 1910, Soldiers and Sailors from the Army Navy Hospital in Hot Springs whose family could not bring them home, were buried at our City Cemetery. After 1910 they were sent via rail car to Little Rock National Cemetery, but for many years, they were buried here. So many different home states represented on the death records and many, many locals. With about 50 years still not done, there will be hundreds if not a thousand or more entries. Researching this almost lost historic piece of Hot Springs, Arkansas and posting every known person (and "unknown" person) who is buried here; Cemetery includes graves from the City Pest House (formal name was "City Hospital" on documents, a 56 bed 2 story hospital owned and operated by the City of Hot Springs for contagious illnesses like scarlet fever, smallpox, cholera, etc ) which operated from the 1895 Small Pox epidemic, through at least the 1940 census on the same grounds with the City Cemetery, which we've found burials, so far, through 1984. People from all over the country are buried here including an unknown soldier and locals including several children and babies. Update; Currently we have the names of close to 800 people buried here. I recently found the original hand drawn plat of the Cemetery, signed by the City Engineer in 1896.
