That monument is located in the Kings Mountain National Military Park in Blacksburg, South Carolina.
I use that photo and one of my copy of "King's Mountain and Its Heroes" by Lyman C. Draper to highlight the participation of the designee in the battle. You can read the caption when you click on the picture. I just added the photo of the book.
I try always to label my photos. I inherited all the family pictures. Fortunately, I know most of those photographed, because no one in my family recorded the names of the people on the pictures. Strangely, someone did write the names of the dogs on all the pictures, so I know the names of all the family dogs through the generations.
If you have never visited that Park, that's a wonderful opportunity for you. I don't know exactly where you live - I have been to Mammoth Cave National Park. As I remember, it is about 450 - 500 miles from Spartanburg, my hometown.
You are a Campbell descendant. A wonderful trip for you would be to pick up the route started in Tennessee taken by the Over the Mountain Men when they hunted down Ferguson and finally found him in South Carolina. The Park Service has done an impressive job on the Park. Please read the reviews on TripAdvisor.com.
I hope you are able to make that trip some time. I have traveled the trail as far as possible and find it fascinating. I plan to take my husband's grandchildren over the trail: I want them to appreciate the effort made by their ancestors who fought there.
If you are able to make the trip, please let me know. I am really interested in your observations.
