|Twenty-five years ago a friend told me she had a new hobby, genealogy, and how much fun she was having. I immediately contacted my mother who informed me that we owned six family Bibles. I have been deep into this ever since. I started with my mother's family in Loudoun County, VA. Her parents were third cousins, a fact she did not know. Of course I added my father's family, my husband's family, and both my daughter-in-law's and son-in-law's families. Then by adding wives, mothers, sisters, brothers, ancestors, descendants, I have ended up with a database of about 37,000. All are related to me or to someone I am related to. |
Most of my time has been spent in Loudoun County, Virginia. I wrote two books on Union Cemetery in Leesburg, a book on Monocacy Cemetery in Bealsville, Montgomery County, MD, Death Records of Fairfax County, VA, and co-authored books on the Death Records of Loudoun County, VA and Marriages after 1850 in Loudoun County, Va. I have also been involved in the preparation of Cemetery Books published by Thomas Balch Library. All of these books are available through Heritage Books.
I am more than happy to share any information I have. My cemetery pictures are there for anyone who needs them. They have been taken over the last 19 years. I will ask that you let me know if you are using a family picture because that means you are probably at least a cousin and I want to know you.
If you see errors, please let me know. Let's get all these people linked! But PLEASE everyone, use the Edit button on the memorial that needs changing! It takes about 2 minutes to make changes using that button. It can take 1/2 an hour or more to find the memorial you would like changed, if you don't use that button, and often I cannot be sure if I am looking at the correct person even then. In that case I may spend an hour or more looking. That takes away from someone else's time. Be fair!

|Alicelth||Union Cemetery Plot A, Lot 60 Site 3|
I had photographed the burial sites for Mary Wildman Hoeber and her son Harold Hoeber, buried in Plot A, Lot 60, Sites 5 and 6 respectively. In plot 4 is Mary's brother John B Wildman. Plot 1 has father and mother John and Anne Wildman; Plot 2 has Katherine Wildman, another daughter. I did notice the foundations for a now vanished headstone at Plot 3. Would you perhaps know who might be buried there? I thought perhaps Jennie Wildman, memorial 9546214, who died at age 7 in 1860. The manager of the memorial wants me to post the picture I took, but wanted to confer with you and also plan to get in contact with the cemetery administrator to find out what might be in their records. I'd appreciate any help and thank you.

|Joseph Voss||Eliza Ann Smith Snider|
This is Catherine Smith Snider's sister. She never married and her maiden name is not Smith. I see she's referred to as Eliza in the transciption of the Washington Post obit. I've seen her listed as Betsy, Elizabeth or Ann, but never as Eliza. According to the obit, her brother is William Slack; however, her brother was William Henry Snider. It's a peculiar fact she died in the home of her nephew, a prominent cabinet maker/undertaker in Leesberg. I've spotted his (or his son's) name on many death certificates for the family.
|Joseph Voss||Catherine Smith Snider|
Catherine's middle name isn't Ann, but rather Smith. It comes from her mother's maiden name - Sarah Ann Smith, which is found on the death certificates of both Catherine and her half-sister, Mary Frances Dawson. I've never seen Ann associated with her name.
|Laura Tibbs||Cornelia Johnson|
I should also mention that Cornelia's marriage record states her maiden name is Cleveland.
|Laura Tibbs||Cornelia Johnson|
Can you please tell me what data you have that proves Cornelia's maiden name is Corum? I know that is her fathers last name is but all of her kids marriage records state that her maiden name is Cleveland. That is her mothers last name. I have not been able to locate any document that states her parents were married.
Thank you, Cornelia's great granddaughter-in-law, Laura
Thanks, Betty, for the transfers of Molly Cannon and Richard Stocks!

Can you please tell me your source for the date of death for Nancy Athey? I haven't been able to locate a source/death record. Am assisting a descendant of hers. Nancy's daughter's death record indicates that Nancy's maiden name was Matthews. Right now I can't locate any original source records for the marriage of George Athey and Nancy, although I did locate them on the 1860 census. However, I can't locate them on the 1870 census, although I located what appears to be their daughter Lucy living in the Loy household in Loudoun, VA (which makes me think her parents died). Any information you can provide will be most appreciated.
