Bio

I'm a 6th generation conch and currently live on the central Florida coast. I grew up in Key West but my roots are also in Islamorada, my maternal grandparents dying in the 1935 Labor Day hurricane that leveled Matecumbe Key. Key West was a little melting pot with a mix of Cuban, Spanish, Bahamian and many other immigrants. It was a special place to grow up although I didn't realize it at the time. I'm accustomed to diversity and cherish it today.

I've very interested in any family that immigrated to the Florida keys and have been researching conch families for years and adding memorials to Find A Grave. I've added memorials of people I know as well as don't know because their families may search for them one day and find them here and be thankful someone took the time to add them. I don't think anyone should be forgotten.

I worked on a project that added thousands of burials to the Key West Cemetery in 2017 with ten other family genealogists. The source of the burial information came from the book "The Records of The Key West Cemetery 1888-1905", edited by Col. Leonard H. Smith, Jr., certified genealogist which is now out of print. Each of these memorials give the source of the information. The information wasn't completely accurate as to exact age and spelling of surnames but we did the best we could.
I've also found burial locations on the satellite Key West Cemetery website which is helpful but there are some errors with dates and misspelled surnames as well as the use of a deceased woman's maiden name instead of her married name in the burial record and even giving some women the surname of the owner of the lot. I always verify death dates and surnames with records on Ancestry and Family Search.

I enjoy plugging away and trying my best to be accurate and helpful to anyone looking for their family on Find a Grave.

I am willing to transfer memorials if your family connects on paper. Please let me know your documented relationship when asking for a transfer. Please ask if you are family. I would rather you have them.
