|Bio and Links|
|First and foremost, we would like to thank all those who approve the edits we have sent. There have been a lot of them as we are attempting to link family members of all our postings. A lot of people use Find-A-Grave as sort of a free genealogy website so we strive to be as correct as possible. |
Please don't be offended if we defend our information. Sometimes we are incorrect and sometimes the other person is. None of us are perfect. If we deny the edit we will explain why with sources. When we are found in error we admit it and correct. If we have provided verifiable documentation and you will not link family members that we have requested, especially if you use the information provided but not approved the edit, we will ask Find-A-Grave to do it for us.
When you leave a message asking a question PLEASE
turn on your public message. I've had several people contact me with questions and no way for me to contact them in return.
Corrections for any posting marked as our family require sources and documentation for verification before corrections are made. You will, of course, be cited as supplying the information. We will not copy, verbatum, obituaries sent to us to post. We will source the publication, date and page and post information given in the obituary.
Please do NOT add newspaper article or obituary scans. The photo section is reserved for headstone/grave photos and possibly a portrait photo of the person, if that photo is owned by you. Do not copy and post photographs from obituary or funeral home websites (unless you personally are the photographer), as they are protected by copyright law. Find A Grave reserves the right to remove obituary notices and photographs from memorial records. Obituaries for "famous" individuals are usually written by newspaper staff and can not be posted to Find A Grave as the newspaper company owns that copyright. Please do not include website addresses that may be listed in the obituary as they usually expire within a year after the obituary is printed.
We work hard on our postings and do not rely only on a cemetery inscription book. We try to add more than just a name and date[s]. We try to link family members. We do not add obituaries for reasons other than stated above. Until recently, obituaries were little more than death notices and give little or no information. We also do not cut and paste death certificate info from familysearch.org or ancestry.com. It looks bad and all the info given on the death certificate is added in the appropriate fields within the posting. If we have biographical information for an individual we do add it. If we have made a mistake in familial linkings, please notify us.
If you find that we have duplicated a posting please inform us so that it can be deleted. There is no need to send a barrage of messages, the duplicated posting will be removed in one to two days.
Transfers of postings will be made according to Find-A-Grave guidelines only. When requesting a transfer, please show how you are related. We will not consider transferring members of our family lines.
