Bio

Glen Edward Erickson was born January 18, 1927, at Des Moines, Iowa. Glen, the youngest of four boys, was born to Robert Benjamin "Ben" and Mae Bohner Erickson.

Glen attended Riley Grade School, Roosevelt High, and graduated in June 1944, from West High School (now Des Moines Tech) in Des Moines.

On December 13, 1944, Glen enlisted in the Army's "Enlisted Reserve Corps." and entered active duty on Jan 31, 1945. Glen had Infantry basic training and advanced basic training in message center cryptography at Camp Hood Texas and at Camp Rucker, Alabama.

On Aug 31, 1945, Glen sailed from San Francisco to Manila, Philippines where he was assigned to the Quartermaster Corps. Glen held positions as Company Clerk and eventually held the position of Personnel Administrative NCO at Battalion Headquarters. Glen was honorably discharged on Dec 12, 1946.

Following discharge, Glen began, GI Bill schooling in Feb 1947, and graduated, with honors, in Nov 1948, with an AA degree in Business Administration.

On Dec 8, 1948, shortly after graduation, Glen was employed by the John Deere Des Moines Works for 33-1/2 years until he took early retirement (age 55) on April 30, 1982. Glen held the positions of Supervisor, Office Services and later for over 25 years as Administrator, Salaried Compensation.

On May 3, 1952 Glen was married to college classmate, Bernice Mae Dykstra. Bernice, the youngest child of Pete & Zwannetta Visscher Dykstra was born in Pella, Iowa, on October 17, 1928.

On Feb 14, 1955 a son, Mark Randal, was born. On Sep 14, 1957 a daughter, Kim Denise, was born.

Shortly after Glen's retirement, Glen & Bernice moved to West Des Moines Iowa and In June 1989, moved permanently to Mesa, Arizona.

Glen's wife, Bernice Mae Dykstra Erickson, died June 5, 2010, following an extended illness.

Glen is the self proclaimed Family Historian.
