I started out with just one mission and that was to find out where a great-grandfather had gone after abandoning my great-grandmother and six children who were left to live homeless for a while. It gets to be a long and involved story so I won't go into it here, but it led to the later discovery of a grandfather on down the line that corresponded with Thomas Jefferson and wrote a book that is still considered to be a great resource of its time period for the history of the valley of Virginia. It was a definite improvement over the bad egg of a great-grandfather!
