"Heredity: An omnibus in which all our ancestors ride, and every now and then one of them puts his head out and embarrasses us."
Oliver Wendell Holmes

This effort is dedicated to our mother, Viola D "Welch" Kartchner, who we lost so long ago.

All too often, the females in our collective family histories tend to get lost behind the acts and accomplishments of the men in their lives...we are striding to rediscover and document those women.

"Let us benefit from the life of our ancestors by passing on to future generations, only what is true."

Die Forschung legt nahe, dass der erste Vorfahren unserer Linie um 1750 aus der Pfalz in Rheinland-Pfalz in die britische nordamerikanische Kolonie Pennsylvania ausgewandert ist.

Researching the descendants of Christopher J. Kartchner and Prudence Ann Wilcox - both of Philadelphia.

Brothers, Gary and Michael, have been doing genealogical research independently and jointly for many years.

Michael is still focused on the family line of our Great great grandfather, William Decatur Kartchner [two wives and 22 children - we are descended from the first son of his second wife]. Michael can be emailed at [email protected]

Nearly 20 years ago, Gary put together a summary of his research - which narrowly focused on the direct lineage of their parents and a digital copy of this effort, The Genealogical Summaries of the Welsh-Kartchner Family Lines (which was as accurate as it could be at that time, needless to say corrections and more information has been discovered since) which can be accessed on the Internet.

Since this effort, Gary has branched out into discovering more about William's two sisters, Margaret [who married James Webb] and Sarah [who married Thomas George Washington Pigg] and about William's brother, John Christopher.

The remaining brother, Peter W, his surname seemed to have evolved into " ketchner" Despite contacts from individuals claiming to be his descendants offering to help in the research, nothing has been received. It has been difficult, but we are slowly beginning to dig out some details about his lineage.

Gary can be contacted at [email protected]

Although the family line has been enhanced by a variety of strong English/Irish families (primarily), it must be remembered that the Germanic culture has always played an integral part of our civilization. It has contributed immensely to Western culture for centuries; in literature, music, the sciences and many other fields.

"Wie der Wind, der endlos durch das Universum heult, trägt die Zeit die Namen und Taten der Eroberer und Bürger gleichermaßen fort.

Und alles, was wir sind, alles, was übrig bleibt, ist in den Erinnerungen derer, denen es wichtig war, dass wir für einen kurzen Moment hierher kamen."
