I began this journey to discover who my ancestors were, how they lived and where their dreams took them. As a very young child, I lived and dreamed myself inside the contents of three suitcases and two scrapbooks that were filled with photos and keepsakes from my parent's childhoods and glimpses of the grandparents I never knew. |
Yet...this was only the beginning.
I began my research just prior to the death of my mother in 2007 and it has become not only my favorite pastime, but almost my driving purpose. I had hoped to find many things when I started, but what I was not expecting was to find new family members, amazing cousins and a community of genealogist who are beyond generous, who take photos, share research and go above and beyond to help bring you closer to those who came before.
I am researching the following Surnames:
Silagy/Szilagyi (Hungary, Brooklyn New York, Gardena, California)
Lackey (McAlester, Oklahoma, Tupelo, Mississippi)
Riley (Pontotoc, Union, and Lee counties Mississippi)
Brown (Brooklyn)*Name change-Russell to Brown
Copeland (Lindale,Texas, McMinn, Tennessee, Walker, Georgia, Spartanburg, South Carolina)
Ogburn (Lindale, Texas, Henry, Tennessee)
Starr (Starrville, Texas, Macon, Alabama)

Hey Robynne...Don't remember if I replied but I could mail you the Ogburn book...let you copy what you need and then send it back to me. Just email me direct at email@example.com if you want me to do that. Thanks, BG (601) 506-9976

Transfer complete on both. Thank you so very much.
|Becky Nelson||RE: Josiah W Ogburn 1855-1929|
Thanks for the reply. However, I am looking for the next generation. The couple buried in Holt Cemetery are, I believe, the parents of the JW Ogburn who founded the Ogburn Community in Wood County. The Josiah W Ogburn I am trying to locate lived 05May1855 - 05Jul1929. My husband and I own property in what was known as the Ogburn Community. I'd like to apply for a historic marker commemorating J W Ogburn and the Ogburn Community and was hoping to find where he is buried. Any information you can offer is appreciated.

I am conducting research on Josiah W Ogburn, so of JW Ogburn and Mary Hyer Ogburn. He was born May 20, 1855 in Chapel Hill and died July 20, 1929 in Dallas. So far, I have been unable to locate his place of burial, which I assume would be in the same location as his wife who died in Dallas in 1934. Both were transported back to the Lindale/Mineola are according to their death certificates. Do you have any info on where they might be buried? Thank you, Becky Nelson
I am interested in the Riley family you are/were researching. My Great Grandfather was Samuel Claiborne Riley. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Robynne hello. The profile page for Lewis Hyer --do you know any of his family still living? I am from his wife Jane Walters. Is it possible to edit this memorial? I would like to add to it. Thank you, Sue K

Of course, Robynne, I will transfer your great grandmother. We are required to do so when asked (4 generation transfer rule). I also have a Hungarian great grandmother named Rosa! (Actually, her birth name was Rosina but she went by Rosa.)
I can tell by reading your bio that you will take good care of her!
If there is anything else I can do for you, just let me know.
PS - Nice old photo of her!
Robynne... Do you have access to the Ogburn Family History written by Fielding Ogburn in the 1980's? I don't know if it's still available but you are welcome to use mine.
|Tim Prestage||George Washington Lackey|
I have transferred memorial #117241979 for George Washington Lackey. Let me know if you would like to have his wife Amanda #117241832 transferred as well.
Thanks for the photo!
