I've always had in interest in "where did I come from" since about the age of 12. I grew up in Goshen yet, when I asked my teachers how to go about tracing my roots, none ever mentioned the existence of the Orange County Genealogical Society. My interest in genealogy was re-fueled when I was given the 1850 bible of my husband's great-grandparents. His 3rd great grandfather is buried in what used to be a family cemetery that is now in someone's back yard just up the road from my home.

I tend to wander cemeteries while looking for the various lines I work on, and am now snapping up photos here and there and posting them on find a grave.

Anytime I look at obituaries, I look at every one that is listed on the page. I then will add those individuals to find a grave if they are not listed. My most recent ones come from the now defunct Newburgh Evening News. Since there is no copy and paste feature, I re-type the info to find a grave. Please let me know if there are typos I need to fix.

RE: Leonard Brooks
Thanks for your reply. I don't really want to have to "call the cemetery office and verify," as you challenged me to do. A good Find A Grave solution would be for you to contact the other admin and collaborate on a solution. The goal, of course, is accuracy. Not just where he is buried, but one grave record for one person, not two. I have had good luck in the past, where other admins were uncooperative or even hostile, in escalating such questions to "management" at Find A Grave, though I've only had to do so once or twice.

Or you could do nothing, allow the redundancy to persist, and continue to snap at people like myself who are only trying to be helpful.

Leonard Brooks, btw, is not a research subject of interest to me. I stumbled across this apparent "duplication" while looking for quite another family.

Thanks for your message. I was a little embarrassed at the quality of the photo. I did not realize you had a request and I was in the process of cleaning the stones in that plot. I will be putting up a nicer photo soon.

I see a picture of her stone was posted by you but the request was not deleted
