Jacob Wise FAG number 45208570
Hello Jo,
First I want to thank you for all your hard work on maintaining this site and any others you maintain. I am, however, suspect that there may be a serious error in this information. I could be wrong and if so I apologize in advance. You state that this Jacob Wise is your 4th Great Grandfather. How sure are you that his mother and father are Adam Wise and Catherine Helft Wise? My research says that this Jacob Wise is not the son of Adam and Catherine. The Jacob Wise that is the son of Adam and Catherine never left Washington County Pa. Also I think Catherines maiden name is Braddford not Helft. She married George Hupp or Helft in 1781 after Adam died.

Here is some further supporting info on this subject. It was written to another person but the info is valid and approprite for this discussion.

Hello Scott,

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I have, however, been taking time to search both your tree and my tree and have come to the conclusion that I don't think we are related. When I compared our trees at first I thought we had to be as it looked like we were both descendants of Adam Wise from Germany. But after taking a closer look I think there may be an error in your tree. You have a Jacob Wise born in Maryland in 1757 and dying in Monroe County Ohio in 1845 as a son of Adam Wise. I have this Jacob Wise as the son of Adam Wise born 1767 and dying in West Bethlehem, Washington County Pennsylvania in 1825. It is not the first time I have run into conflicts with this Jacob Wise. It seems there were two Jacob Wise's in the same area both born within a few years of the same time so they are easily confused.
One was in Green County Pennsylvania and the other in West Bethlehem, Washington County Pa. One moved to Monroe County Ohio the other stayed in Washington County Pa. until his death. I believe your connection is to the one who moved to Monroe County Ohio and mine is to the one who stayed in Washington County Pa. Again, research says the Jacob Wise who moved to Monroe County Ohio is NOT a descendant of Adam Wise and the one who stayed in Pa is the descendant of Adam Wise. If this is accurate it would mean we are definitely not related.

I am in possession of a book called “The Water and the Word" an Adam Wise genealogy published in 1996 and written by Lucille Donaldson, Rachel Hayward, and William M Caldwell Jr. It is an extensive Bible of information (700 pages) on Adam Wise and his descendants. On page 63 they have documented the following paragraph Quote: “According to Beers, 18 Jacob Wise (this is the Jacob Wise we are discussing) spent his entire life in Washington County Pennsylvania. He disappears from the Census records after 1820.We infer that he died before 1826 because several of his children emigrated to Muskingum County, Ohio, between 1825 and 1835. We have found no estate or cemetery record for Jacob. Words to the Wise (Vol. 1, No. 4, page 2) has a claim that he went to Monroe County, Ohio, before 1820. Note there is a Jacob Wise listed in the 1830 Ohio census for Monroe County (P. 132, Franklin Township) However, intensive research indicates that the Wises who went to Monroe County, Ohio, are not a descended from 1 Adam Wise.

Let me know what you think.

RE: Joshua Atwood Tilton
Hello Jo, I am just shocked how this has come about. The forms I have were found in a box of old books and recipes from an old home here in Centreville that were thrown to the garbage. A neighbor got them and gave me all the recipes because he knows I love to cook. When I recieved your find a grave for Joshua A. Tilton I liked to feel out!!! I found his grave yesterday and just had to sit and tell him of my strange connection to him? I wanted to find more info about him, maybe a picture to go along with a name!!! I'm not kin in any way to him and Im going to scan the papers and try to post the clearer. They are all original!!!!
