Bio

Biological Daughter of Leroy R. Colby and Emogene (Imogene) Hawkins.

Granddaughter of: Estelle L. Higley and Raymond W. Colby; Barnie H. Hawkins and Mona G. Benedict.

Wife of Stephen John Shockey (deceased) and now married to Stephen F. Shockey, mother of 4 children.

I started doing genealogy about 20 years ago when our youngest child was in second grade. They had a school project where they wanted them to do a chart with at least their great grandparents on it and to show what country they came from originally. We couldn't get very far because we didn't know the answers and our parents were all gone so there was no one to ask. It started us on a quest to see if my two husband were related to each other. That took two years to solve and the end results was that they were 5th cousins (totally unknown to each other).

We have spent our last three vacations spending half our time visiting graveyards and cleaning headstones so that we could photograph them. Most of them have been family members but when we have time we also do as many of the surrounding headstones as we possibly can. We always clean them first so that the pictures are as readable as possible. It becomes a passion and two heart attacks have slowed me down but I still try to do what I can to make sure everyone we photograph is remembered on Find A Grave. I read a quote one time that I really liked. It went something like this. "You are never truly gone until you are Forgotten."
