We (Polly Cox and Rosalind Weaver) have found hundreds of "unknowns" in the Del Norte Cemetery through records searches - primarily newspaper obituaries and church records. Because we were unable to identify precisely where many of these were buried, we have made wooden crosses with the names and dates and most of these have been placed in a "common" area in the hopes that family members, on seeing these, might direct us to the proper burial places for these individuals. The crosses were constructed and lettered by volunteers (initially Rosalind and Butch Weaver who were then joined by Deborah Romero). Deborah recruited several more volunteers including her husband and several Del Norte High School students. These crosses are an ongoing project: as new information comes to light, we will make, letter and place more of them. Cynthia Wojciechowicz has graciously provided photographs of each individual cross so that a picture could be added to each person's memorial page.
