Edmund Burke said "People will not look forward to posterity, who never look back to their ancestors." I do believe that is true and have been dabbling in genealogy research on my husband's and my families for about 40 years plus I have a library science background. Between the two and the love of solving puzzles, I love research of any kind. When I found this site I was excited because it is easy to use, has a wealth of information on ancestral burials, plus it's free! I love this site and am on it every day searching or adding information. I will keep working and seeking more information to help our family trees along, plus help others as I can.
Thanks for this wonderful website!
Lois

RE: Francisco Vidal
You might want to look again: Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose California has the following Vidal family members:

Franciso Angel Vidal, died 1943, he is the son of Francisco Vidal who died in 1895.

Clara Gabilan Vidal, died 1942, wife of Franciso Angel Vidal.

Carmen Vidal Higuera, died 1945, daughter of Francisco Vidal, sister of Francisco Angel.

Senovio Vidal, died 1928, son of Francisco Vidal, brother of Francisco Angel and Carmen Vidal Higuera.

Ernest Vidal Sr. and Jr., son and grandson of Senovio Vidal.

Loretta Vidal Laws, died 2003, daughter of Ernest Sr. and Granddaughter of Senovio Vidal.

As you can see, at least three of Francisco Vidal's children lived for many years in San Jose. There are newspaper articles that reference them. There's an obit in the San Jose newspaper that says Francisco Vidal died here in 1895. I'm friends with a Great Granddaughter of Francisco Angel Vidal and Clara Gabilan Vidal, so there's still family living here.

Like I said, if you don't want to note that the funeral records for Oak Hill list Francisco as buried in Oak Hill, where three of his children were living at the time of his death, that's fine. But please don't try and say that the information I have is wrong because it isn't. I've done a lot of research on this family because it's my friend's family, and they were intermarried with some of my family several generations back.

Francisco Vidal
Why would Oak Hill have a burial record for him if he wasn't buried there? Families put up cenotaphs in cemeteries to remember family that isn't with them. My great great aunt has a cross on her family plot for her son who died in WWI but is buried in France.

I am hearing that I've offended you and I'm sorry for that.

RE: Francisco Vidal
Lois,

Yes, I saw the cross for him, but that doesn't necessarily mean he is buried there. I have actual documentation from Oak Hill Cemetery in San Jose that he was buried in the family plot.

I am not at all asking that your delete your memorial, or change his grave location, but could you please make a note on his bio that he might possibly be buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in San Jose? Perhaps he was originally buried at OH and then moved? Thing is, we don't really know what happened, but there is a cemetery record, not just a cross, for him elsewhere. Though I will say, there are grave markers for the rest of the family in that plot in San Jose, but not him. Makes me think he was originally buried in SJ and later moved? The cemetery records don't note that, but it certainly seems possible.

However, if you don't want to make the note in his bio, that's okay too, no offense taken.

I want you to know I really appreciate the work you've done in the San Ramon Chapel cemetery - I wouldn't have been able to connect Francisco with his family without the time and effort you put in and I thank you for it.

Francisco Vidal
Lois,

Thank you for posting the memorial for Francisco Vidal Sr. I know there is a marker for Francisco Vidal in the San Ramon Chapel Cemetery, but I not only have an obit for him dying in San Jose in 1895 (where his sons Francisco Jr. and Senovio were living), I now have a cemetery record that shows him buried in the same family plot with his sons.

Would you mind changing your memorial page for him to reflect burial in the Oak Hill Memorial Park, San Jose, or do you have a definitive record showing his burial in the San Ramon Chapel Cemetery?

Thank you so much for the work you do on findagrave. I also enjoy it very much.

RE: Thanks!
It is one of the cemeteries that don't want find-a-grave photos taken so I go there and choose graves at random to photograph. I just happened to score a hit with your request. Glad to help and as you imply, we are all related. :)

John Schmidt
Hi Lois,
I found your listing for John Schmidt #146251811 in Rosehill Cemetery in Chicago. I read that it is hard to get information on burials in Rosehill. I would like to find out where John Schmidt and his son Edwin S. Smith are buried in Rosehill.
Thank you for your volunteer work with Find A Grave and any help you may be able to give you.
Thank you ,
Kathlyn Kraffmiller
