American ancestry traced back to Spotsylvania, Rappahannock, and Augusta counties of Virginia in the early 1700s. Ancestors fought with the American rebel patriots of the Revolutionary war, one great great great grandfather fought at the Battle of New Orleans, and great grandfathers of both my parents' families fought for Virginia in the Confederacy - 50th Va Inf., 8th Va Cav., 5th Va Inf, and 12th Va Cav.

My father, Paul E. Deatherage, served with US Navy Patrol Bombing Squadron VPB-119 in the Philippines during World War II. He was the only member of his deployment crew to survive the war.
