Tiny Lou Vanderpool
d/o Levi Franklin Vanderpool (1880-1968).

Tiny Lou Vanderpool died 15 July 1931 in Arizona (not in 1961). Her stone is quite clear and Arizona death record agrees it was 1931.

Thanks.

RE: John O. Vanderpool
Hi Bill. My brother was a U.S. Marine (served in Vietnam).

Eunice Margaret Vanderpool married first Felix R. Rodriguez 6 July 1943 in Oakland, Alameda County, California.
[we have been unable to find a divorce]. He was born in 1922 in Oklahoma (later married Christine Stoltz and had issue). He died 13 July 2006 in Los Angeles County. See below -- I believe he was part of the WWII invasion group.

Private -- please don't post:
Eunice had a daughter (out of wedlock) by Dr. Emory Edward Beechwood who was born in August of 1943. We understand that Felix married Eunice to give the child a name. It was another time and generation.

Eunice later purportedly married Melvin Poggensee, but we have been unable to find a marriage record -- they lived together in California from ca 1945 until they died in 2003 and 2006.

They are known as the greatest generation."

On D-Day, they proved it.

At predawn, June 6, 1944, members of the 398th Bombardment Group awoke
to a day that would turn the tide of the war in Europe and end with
3,000 Americans dead.

Like most in the Army Air Forces, 1st Lt. Ike Alhadeff trained for this
particular day, but he didn't know when Supreme Allied Commander Gen.
Dwight D. Eisenhower would give the go-ahead for the largest amphibious
military operation in history: Operation Overlord, code named D-Day--the
Allied invasion of German-occupied northern France.

During a 3 a.m. briefing at Station 131 in Nuthampstead, England, the
young B-17 pilot with the 398th discovered Operation Overlord had
started a little past midnight.

"We knew D-Day was coming, but it was a shock when it came," said the
88-year-old who lives in Seattle, Wash.

Pre-dawn strike

On his first D-Day mission, Lieutenant Alhadeff dropped all his bombs in
an attempt to soften the German defenses stretched across a coastline
where Allied forces would land. On his second run, cloud cover prevented
him from releasing ordnance. Eighth Air Force launched 882 B-17s during
that first strike.

"When we could see through an opening in the clouds, it looked like
there were so many boats you could walk across the channel," he said.

That same scene was played out for Tech. Sgt. Armand Fugge, a 398th
engineer and top turret gunner for a B-17 Fighting Fortress. He's now 82
years old and lives in Mathuen, Mass.

RE: Matilda Hale
Thank you so much! I found those names today from my aunt. I called the Indian Nation and apparently they don't have records that far back and any records I can find Matilda marked white for race since it wasn't good to be Indian back then. It is very interesting though. Thank you for your help. Do you know how you are related to Matilda and John Milford?

Linda Wright at Desert View Cem
Bill, I only found one tree on ancestry with Linda on it. It does link her to those parents that you entered at Desert View Cemetery and the ones I took the photo of. But in looking at what records are available for birth and marriage in CA there are no records that match what is on the tree. That tree is the Scott & Skidmore tree where the Wright family is found. They also have a Lee Vern Wright, sister to Linda and she is buried in CA and on findagrave as well. I see that you transferred the Wright parents memorials. It does seem probable that Linda is a daughter of Lester & Helen. But no birth record in CA for her. And can't check OK online for births. Also there is a marriage in 1972 in CA according to the Scott tree, but CA marr records don't show a Linda that matches her. Also checked NV but none. This marriage date is actually for her sister Lee.
I can send a request to link Linda and sister Lee to the parents. Let me know if I can help further. Carolyn at mclloyd1@charter.net
