Since retiring from the U.S. Postal Service I began doing Genealogy to join Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). That was in 2005 and I am still researching, finding many previously unknown connections and ancestors, especially in Colonial Pennsylvania. We descend from early families of Hartmann, Hench, Rice, Yohn, Peters, Breiner/Bryner, Vanderslice and allied families.
My 7th great grandfather, Heinrich Pannebaker was William Penn's Surveyor and the emigrant ancestor who began a lengthy legacy, rooted in early Pennsylvania settlement and history. I joined the Pannebakker Family Association and quickly became a Vice President.
I have been a member of, and involved in, the Clan MacNeill Association of America since the 1970's, helping my parents man the Clan tent at Monterey, CA Games. For many years my father, Frank McNeal, hand made the Cabers (poles the athletes toss at the Games)in his back yard. I am the Clan Commissioner of the Central Coast area of California, but due to arthritis have had to cut back on my tent setting up and only attend the main Games at Pleasanton, CA. and assist in the tent. My granddaughter, Brittny and I travelled to quite a few Games, doing all the hauling, loading, unloading, set up,and take down until it became physically too much. We had a lot of fun and enjoyed the folks we met, whether MacNeills or not.
I was involved with the 4-H program from 1973 until 2007. Aside from genealogy research I am a spinner and weaver, taught Brittny how to shear, wash, dye and prepare wool and mohair. She gave many demonstrations of what spinning entails, from the animals back to a finished item. We've had alot of fun sharing what we do and hope others will take an interest to preserve these skills. I've always been intrigued with weaving -then my genealogy revealed that quite a number of my Pennsylvania ancestors were weavers and/or dyers, carders...which shows it is in our genes.
Millerick research has been at the forefront in recent months and is 'easy' because it is in the late 1800's to 1900's, not like some of the early ancestors of my other lines.
I belong to the Monterey County Genealogical Society, Cambria County Historical Society and the Blair County Genealogical Society of PA. I hope to add some photos to Find-a-Grave and some information on postings I have already found on the site. It really helps to find the cemetery , a photo and/or information on one of your own ancestors. The volunteers do such a wonderful job, and I for one, am very thankful for that.
