I am researching all personally related family trees (I should live so long!) but am concentrating on the Barkhuff family at the moment. I am hoping to wrap up an 8 yr project by 2014. I take annual trips to NY with my sister Barbara who is my cohort and chief supporter. I have had some difficulty in uploading some photos due to size, but try to add photos as I have time. Prospect Hill, Guilderland, NY was one of my favorite haunts as is Chuctanunda Cemetery, Florida, NY and Green Hill Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY as I have found a ton of information that ultimately helped to correct many prior errors and allow me to connect many family members. I would love to be able to eventually link all of the Barkhuff members as findagrave grows.
In Oct 2011 my husband, sister, brother-in-law and myself spent 4 days in Center Brunswick, Troy, NY working on the "opposite" Brick Church cemetery (the original and small cemetery across Rt 278 from the present day and large Brick Church cemetery.) We cleared brush, cut tree limbs and dead trees, whacked the weeds, raked, found buried headstones and dug holes and reset 58 stones. This couldn't have been done without the men's help. There are now 152 headstones out of the the original 174 present and accounted for and only 2 that could not be lifted. I promised my relatives that we would return to clean the cemetery when I first found their headstones in 2010 and I did. And did I mention the poison ivy 3 out of the 4 of us suffered!
I wish all of the cemeteries could be saved!
I am getting closer to completing the entire Barkhuff family in America. This project has taken years longer than I thought it would. Going back to work full time has slowed down the progress quite a bit. I have about 1100 pages with photos and stories for "the book"; but there is still more to research. Pray to God he gives me the time I need!
PS A HUGE thank you to all of the contributors at findagrave! You make my job so much easier by taking wonderful photos, uploading them, adding the personal info on each person, and then transferring you work to me. Please know that I sincerly appreciate each and everyone of you. Also know, that for each of your photos that I attach to my tree on ancestry, I make sure your name is attached to the photo there.
