Bio

Hi, all. My Given name is Mary Sue Cook. Friends and co-workers call me "Sue." My family calls me "Susie." If you call me "Mary Sue," I will know I'm in trouble. Regardless, you can take your pick. I will answer.

The photo is of me in 2010, visiting the holy grail of cemeteries (as so aptly described by one of our fellow cemetery hounds), the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Sleepy Hollow (Tarrytown), NY. It is extraordinary, to say the least.

I started helping my mother, Margie (Roe) Cook research our family's history many years ago, though by the time I picked up on helping with the research, she had already gathered the bulk of the information on the first several generations.

My father, Emmet Eugene Cook, retired from the U.S. Air Force when I was 10, and that was when we settled in Oklahoma City, only a short ride from where he grew up near Maud, OK, and also near where my mom grew up, Shawnee, OK. Living there left us with plenty of opportunities for research (back in the day when Mom actually had to write letters and visit family members in order to obtain documents and information.

I moved to the east coast in 1986 (long story) and I have been living here at the Jersey shore for 27 years now (longer story). I would love to get this Oklahoma girl back home with family one day, but with both kids having grown up at the Jersey shore, ...well, we'll see. Time will tell.
