Around 20 years ago while at a family reunion, a family member had a genealogist research the surname and they shared what they had found with me. That's when I started to put together the family tree.
After my mother passed away, while going through old trunks, I found old scrapbooks with obituaries that she and her mother had saved. Find-A-Grave was just the place for them.
