Bio and Links
Bio Photo Find A Grave was very useful to me in my past family research, now it's time to give back to this site. Find A Grave is where we find and add our memorials to our friends and relatives. It's wonderful to have this place where we are able to see the headstone, maybe their picture, and add their life story, and link them to their parents, spouse and children. It broke my heart to find someone dear to me here, after visiting the grave for such a long time and running out of conversation with the headstone, so began the taking of pictures of the markers next to the grave. If you stand at the grave, name all the children on the stone, and tell them what the grandchildren have been up to lately, you get to the sad part of the grandchildren they never got to know. Should our grandchildren ever want to know where they came from this may be one place to look in the future. If there is a memorial added and it is your friend or relative my loved ones are probably near by. It is surprising how many contact me about the names that have been added with more links and information. If you show interest in a name there will be more research done, so look again at it later. My renewed interest is in family history and plan to enter information mainly in the southwestern Idaho area. Will try to help you with requests, have been finding local obituaries and transcribing them from microfilm.

Please feel free to use... the pictures, biographies, obituaries, etc. in any way that is helpful to you, and there is no need to give credit. Find A Grave scales down the pictures so click on them several times till they are as big as possible before saving.

Mamie Estella Sassaman Averill
Hello Mr. Fowler.

Mamie Estella Sassaman Averill was my paternal grandmother.
My Sister and I were abandoned by our parents in 1948 at a dog pound in Douglas County Nebraska. We were taken from Nampa, Idaho, driven to Schuyler, NE where we spent the night with my father's sister and her husband for 1 night. We-myself and a sister and brother left the following morning to Douglas County -about an hour's drive from Schuyler where the parents dropped us off, taking their son with them heading east to Ohio. I never saw may brother -who died in 2011- or my parents or my sister again.
My parents are dead, as are all but one of the Carl Eugene Averill immediate family. My paternal uncle is just 92 years of age. All of his 9 siblings predeceased him, as did his wife. He has no children, but numerous nieces (including me) and nephews and two foster children (now adult).
I have edited Mamie's maiden name to correct the spelling: Sassaman. She was a daughter of Sowara Walter Sassaman and Mary Magdalene Miles Sassaman.
As you see, what may be on a headstone or in an obituary often does not reflect the whole truth of one's life or its death. Carl Eugene Averill who predeceased Mamie was married before he met her. He and Lilly Kamradt had a daughter and a son who Mamie knew nothing about until a young woman showed up in Nampa, ID searching for her father.
Carl, my grandfather, was buried in Alexandria NE in 1955 alongside Lilly, much to the chagrin of Mamie who had birthed 10 of his children.
I have spent the bulk of my life piecing together my family -all because of Nebraska's archaic closed adoptions and sealed documents and child abandonment laws. I found my uncle in 2010...I was 2 years old when abandoned. Yu won't find that information on a tombstone or in documentation -unless of course you are a very good investigator.
Please correct my grandmother's maiden name.

If I can be of any other assistance in this matter, please feel free to contact me.
