Two brothers were orphaned in Georgia as infants and adopted out. When grown they got back together, both married and then they came by wagon train to Crystal River, FL. One brother stayed in this area with his family and the other moved further South to Largo and then later to Lithia (Welcome) Fl. I have been tracking the family history for a number of years now and have unearthed quite a bit of information. It is fascinating some of the things you find in old letters and census records.

There was a lot of infant deaths as well as adults that occurred in the Crystal River area. Some of the family had claimed and settled on islands located just off the coast. It was thought that they got sick because the fresh water and salt water met near their home. What they didn't know was it was the mosquitoes. (Malaria was the culprit). Other families lived inland and later moved further inland towards Inverness and Floral City. I have tracked family members all over the state of Florida and the United States.

I can't find any information beyond the two orphaned brothers. I did get some information from a distant relative I found online that it was reported that the Mother and Father of the two boys were killed in a fire when the youngest brother was an infant. I was also told by an older distant cousin before she passed away at the age of 98 that she thought she remembered talk of three brothers coming over from England. One stayed North, one moved West and one moved South. It appears our family comes from the brother that moved and settled in the South. All records were burned during the Civil War.
