|Special thanks to those who take volunteer photos for requests, the hardest and most rewarding job of all! |
My husband & I use the volunteer requests to get out, see the countryside, enjoy nature, & learn history one stone at a time. We use it as a hobby & a therapy. I'm not "in it" for the numbers!
Please feel free to use my photos in any not-for-profit way that will serve your genealogical or historical purposes. I'm happy to share with the findagrave community!
I do ask, however, that you give me credit by name -- Nancy Bowers -- for taking the photos. Thanks.
If you would like any Story County memorial of a family member -- someone you are related to or descended from -- transferred to you, please let me know!

Please be patient w/ me. i had started takng photos last summer at Nevada. Then I was working for about 8 mos. on St. Ambrose in Des Moines rectifyomg the records w/ the actual graves. Now I've gone back to Nevada (we lived there for about 20 yrs.) to photograph what hasn't been done, & it's gone from 46% to 89% in the last 2 mos. I am obscessed w/ getting the records up to date. The cemetery has no on line record of burials. And it was last updated bybthenhistorical society in 1998. I want to complete the photos & get the locations on the memorials (which many contributors haven't bothered to add🙁) the compile a current record of burials. I will go back through the record when I finish the photos, then may delete or correct photos. I didn't know manynof them were sideways until people tested me, because they were upright on my site. When I look in Ancestry, I see they are sideways. So, I can't really see the incorrect ones unless I have both sides in front of me. And as lonf as I am adding photos, I'm not ready to double check. Yes, some aren't as good, but, may show a difference in the aging of the stone from previously. I don't believe a time comparison is bad. I also have spent a lot of time walking & studying the stones, so sometimes just feel, if I'm spending all this time working there, I'll just add my photo that I took the time to take, rather than just adding the location which a large percentage of people haven't added, but is important to people looking for their family. I am trying to take groupings of the lots now to help people locate the graves. I may be a bit stubborn by adding my photos, but, if I'm going to put in the effort to do all this, I'm going to add my photo not just a location. Sorry, I don't mean to offend, just like to contribute like everyone else. If a photo was added 8 + yrs. ago, it will change in appearance, & perhaps not look as nice. But, I will eventually get back to review the memorials. Thanks for listening. Let me know which need correcting, please.
You declined a change for Edward Adkins. His middle initial is a D not a K, as verified on the monument.

I just added one so I could see. Click on the flowers and one option is to delete.

You added this to the notes section of Ben F. Hensley. 18785239 is actually his own memorial, not his wife's. I don't know if that can be corrected, but it probably should be, if it can, or removed if it cannot.
18785239 is the number for his wife Mary Elizabeth Vaughan Hensley.
